Buying a new clutch but which brand?

Yeah looking to keep it for the long haul, then after that it's a donor for another so thanks for you advice, I'll go for Valeo. Cheers!

Buying a new clutch but which brand?

Having to change my clutch and notice that there are various brands to choose from with varied prices. Two caught my eye, Valeo and AP Delphi, however AP Delphi is cheapest of all but do I compromise on build quality say thickness of clutch plate by going for the cheapest? Thought I'd ask the...

    P38 2.5 DSE Clutch change

Ok, doing some more research have found a great website with a guy replacing his duel mass fly wheel, which has a picture (quite small) of the use of a trolley jack supporting the whole gearbox / transfer box. Range Rover P38 2.5 DSE Dual Mass Flywheel problem He looks to have created an...

    Transfer box loose bolts?

Perfect, and thanks for the tip about the nuts, was wondering where I might find those :) I've actually asked another question relating to doing my clutch change, not sure if you could help? http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/p38-2-5-dse-clutch-change-61659-2.html Many thanks!

    Transfer box loose bolts?

... yes so the bolts in the actual transfer box that the prop attaches too, they are loose, wasn't sure if they are supposed to be loose. The 4 bolts the diff end looked like they just weren't ever tightened which was worrying... Hope that makes sense. Thanks

    Transfer box loose bolts?

Hi, just replacing my clutch and when I took the rear prop off I noticed two things: 1 - The bolts on the drive shaft end were all loose (not tightened) 2 - When I got the prop off the bolts attached to the transfer box end were loose (wobbling) Anyone know why any of these might have been...

    P38 2.5 DSE Clutch change

Hi zzr1200, I know its quite an old thread but I am attempting a clutch change and was worried about supporting the gearbox with a jack... You said about taking gearbox and transfer box on a trolley jack, struggling to picture where you attached it, do you mean with the chassis cross member...

electric seats in a P38 Not working? whats wrong?

Did you guys have any luck with this? I've just changed my manual seats for a slightly newer manual set with what looks like the addition of a motor on the drivers side for up and down. I too have a spare socket the C907 and a spare wire coming from the seat (which doesn't fit) but I think I'm...

    Low range disappointingly jumpy

Well it doesn't run lumpy on tick over, as I say most noticeable in low range but also can feel it in high range a bit when I go on or come off the accelerate. There is a nice whurring sound from the gearbox area when I'm driving along, but as you say could be one of a few things. Someone...

    Low range disappointingly jumpy

Would it be perhaps a better idea for me to replace the whole transfer box because after 167k it might all be pretty warn? Cheers

    Low range disappointingly jumpy

Is the rocking the jacked up passenger side idea a sure fire way of working out if the transfer chain is slack? I'm happy to replace the chain if that is the problem but want to be sure as some people are saying its a bit rare. Another note to add is that I have started to notice that...

    Low range disappointingly jumpy

My last P38 was also a manual, however you mention miles on the clock and I have 167k of them so interesting that you say about the transfer box chain. Is it something that can be tightened or are we talking replacement chain? Thanks

    Low range disappointingly jumpy

Had a P38 before and low range was smooth, I would have it in 1st and could happily accelerate and decelerate without a problem, however my current P38 DSE manual seems quite harsh when I decelerate or accelerate even when just tickling it. Any thought on why this is? I looked at a Discovery TD5...

    P38 only blowing hot air...

I've had the instrument panel out and got to the servos, however opening them both up all the gears look good with no signs of wear. If I disconnect the connector to the three servos and apply a 12v supply this should be a good test to see if they are working or not right? I want to try and rule...

    P38 only blowing hot air...

Thanks everyone, looks like yet another 'feature' of the P38 to investigate, I've now got plenty of things to try! Cheers

    P38 only blowing hot air...

Since I got my P38 DSE it has only been blowing hot air out even when I change the temperature down to low. I seem to be able to sometimes get the left handside to go cooler but right hand side is always hot. I read somewhere that this might just be the airflow not mixing correctly so could be a...

p38 2.5 diesel front axle seal.

Well after lots of bending a few broken bits and plenty of frustration, finally got my hub nut off! Used a tip about putting the hub nuts half way in before giving them a bash thereby easing the hub off. Half shaft is out too and I can now look at my CV joint, if I hold the CV joint and pull...

p38 2.5 diesel front axle seal.

Thanks for the tips here, I'm just attempting the procedure myself, it's hard work! Just wanted to ask as haven't got hub off yet but with my hands around the CV Joint gaitor (which is a bit worse for wear) I can shift the axle back and forth. Is this play normal or is it just another reason for...

    Fuel gauge temperamental...

Think this might be the sender not working correctly as there might be a difference when I have the fuel over a certain level, problem is diesel is not so cheap so when I have a windfall I might try half a tank to see if that proves the theory :) Cheers
