Having to change my clutch and notice that there are various brands to choose from with varied prices. Two caught my eye, Valeo and AP Delphi, however AP Delphi is cheapest of all but do I compromise on build quality say thickness of clutch plate by going for the cheapest? Thought I'd ask the forum for advice.

Many thanks

How long you gonna keep the car??

Short to Medium - go for the cheaper...

Long Term - go for the Valeo...

It is a job you probably only want to do once - so go for the quality if you intend to jkeep the car....

Yeah looking to keep it for the long haul, then after that it's a donor for another so thanks for you advice, I'll go for Valeo.

Cheers!

Yep found those thanks, just wasn't sure which to go for as there seems to be only the brand name difference, no idea of quality or track record...

Thanks

Just bought one for my P38 Diesel off eBlag, its a Valeo (LUK) for £118.71 inc VAT and delivery

Did have a minor hassle in that the 1st 1 turned up and was damaged in transit, they arranged a swapout and the replacement turned up today

Sorry Saint, normally agree with you but just can't endorse that. Shocking attitude "stick **** in and then push off to someone else.". Who will have bought it off you in good faith and for good money, not dodgy notes I would imagine.

I know I've gotten stick in the past for suggesting that if people aren't willing to spend what it takes to maintain their Range Rovers properly (and frankly P38 parts aren't even that expensive) perhaps they shouldn't be driving one but you seem to go in the opposite direction!

Fair Comment....

I have to say I did re-read it back once I posted it, and thought 'hmmmm that sounds a bit Mike Brewer' so I apologise, I have to say I have never sold a car on.....mine have either gone to the scrapper in the sky or part ex'd before a large repair bill looms....

And now I feel bad for calling you on it! I have sold cars on but often in better shape than I got 'em. But I'm the type who'll fix a bulb in a hotel room if I notice it. Once fixed a funny rattle in a rented car. Mentioned it to them as I dropped it off and they rather sheepishly admitted they'd know about it and the car was due to have gone in the next week, etc. etc. Got a free weekend rental voucher out of it!

AP Lockheed have been around for donkeys years. Their clutch division was formerly known as Borg & Beck. They have been first tier suppliers to most manufactures of clutches and brakes.
I have never had any issues with their products over the years.
All manufactures have "Preferred Suppliers" and always have secondary suppliers on tap to use when needed.
Valeo are brilliant....just look at the quality of the HEVAC fitted to the P38, their Blend motors are the most reliable you can get and of the highest quality !!!!!! :hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi

ignoring the **** taking re the quality of RR parts for a moment... :)

My neighbour when I was growing up was Mr Warner from Borg Warner (gearboxes). Nice guy and a proper engineer.

This seems great, does seem quite cheap though considering the cheapest I could find was at Island4x4 at £30 odd more!!...
