Well done, its a good start...... often with these things you just have to chip away a bit and see what makes a difference. Gearbox ECU's seldom give trouble. Once you have all the faults sorted it will give you more of an idea what the probable cause is.

I had that exact same issue, turned out to be the quadrant on the side of the gearbox that was US, I opened it up but a second hand one was so cheap it wasn't worth tinkering with. Make sure Neutral lights up OK as well or it won't transfer to low range.

Three litres is a lot, it could well be the cause, I would certainly try the oil and filter change first, clean oil always helps. The other possibility is the forward clutch pack, is there a big difference in take up from rest between fwd and rev? Clutch pack would be a rebuild job, and a good...

I think if you just do normal LR stuff (and it sounds like you do) then you just get the OEM shocks.... LR spend years and millions sorting this stuff out for us,... much more than some of the names mentioned: ..... simples in my view.
