I've never driven a Discovery V8 but I know the 4.6 requires a lot of pedal travel before it'll really start to move. If you're not used to it, it gives the impression of not having a lot of go unless you really floor it. It's just the way the throttle pedal is set up. Is this part of the problem?

If it's superlocked, the only way is brute force and ignorance. Look on the www.rangerovers.net site. On there you'll find detailed instructions with pictures. You'll also need a new lock.

Sounds more like a complete lack of boost. It'll still rev with no load if the turbo ain't working but it won't go very quick. What does the hose feel like to the intercooler when you rev it?

I was under the impression the exhausts were identical on both diesel and petrol. If the diameter of the inlet and outlet pipes are the same on both boxes, just use it. It's only a silencer at the end of the day.
