Ok so tested vcu again today . vcu was stone cold @ 9 c which must make it stiffer then a test in the summer @23 c which is what hippo has in his tests on youtube ? I made up a better test rig and spaced it out so weight would not rub on door on way down ! So 1.2 m bar with 5kg @45...

So your td4 did 173,000 miles on original VCU ? what broke in the end ? Going to test some more weights sunday , Also try to find a better weight as oil bottle would touch side of car sometimes which would slow it down ? Was a hard job getting the socket to stay in place while you hold...

This thread is about the gearbox oil change not the rear diff :rolleyes: You can you a large syringe to get diff oil out & then replace the same way .

Yes 5mm on rear 2mm to front till you get new tyres sorted . You 100% don't put 2mm & 5mm on same axel :eek: Jobs to search on here - EGR - Clean / disable or replace with bypass . Turbo vent filter . Engine breather replaced with BMW part . Gearbox , IRD , Rear diff oil change .

Yes here in Essex the coldest/highest temps on record are -11.3 & 33.5 deg C I have been using 5w-30 but looks like we could reach the upper temp range if global warming go's up :lol: looks like a 10w-40 semi or 5w-40 fully would be the best choice for me :)

For peace of mind as you have VCU off the car already why not send to bell engineering for testing & replacement sent back if needed ?

Genuine LR drop links have lasted 5 years on my td4 , So I'm on my second set now . Buy cheap buy twice .
