it just gets better and better

Could be lucky and it's just the gasket but as nesponge says, you'd be better checking that nothing's fecked before putting it back together. I had the same thing happen to mine but when the head came off, it was clear that the engine was completely FUBAR! I was reliably informed from this...

Me again - really need some help...

Don't wish to stte the bleedin obvious but I had similar trouble with a bike engine I rebuilt. Thought about it and realised I'd put the cam in 180° out. Everything looked right but wouldn't fire and had the thump, thump you mention. Keep at it, you'll get there.

    Will this seat fit??????????

I think the problem is that Discopaul's seat runners are buggered, that's why he needs the base but not the seat.

    Lost me nut!

Cheers mate. I'll raid the work bins first!

    Lost me nut!

Just about to finish off putting a new engine and box in my Disco when I found that the nut box was empty and there is still one gearbox mounting to bolt down. Anyone know what size the nuts are that hold the rubber mount to the chassis? The car is not at my home so it would be a pain to...

    Will this seat fit??????????

Here's a pic of the base. If it's just the runners you need, then they do unbolt from the frame. Cheers

Getting my freebie all graphic'd up

So why don't you just present your artwork to a vinyl print shop? They could print off your design on white vinyl and therefore, you could have a white background. Alternatively, any signshop with plotting software should be able to cut any font you want....at a price. As for getting covered...

    No ABS light

I have a '94 and a '96 and neither have ABS fitted. I think Classic kev has given you some good advice.

    Rear electric windows

Thanks for the acknowledgement but I rather think the gentleman who scripted the article would not be too impressed. but then, he was a merkin so I'll take as much credit as possible:D:D:D

    Saggy seat base

Come on, it's only 4 bolts holding the seat in and you would spend far more time trying to undo clips with the seat in place.

    300tdi - serpentine belt

Try the penny trick first. Costs...a penny and a few minutes

    loss of power steering

I had my pump go on my 300TDi. The pulley still spun but the shaft had sheared. Although I don't know the differences between a 200 and a 300, I'd take the belt off and see if there's any play in the pump pulley. If you find some, then it could be the pump's had it.

Lifting a disco engine and box out in one go?????

I've done it to a couple of 300TDi's. Getting em out is easy enough as long as you can get enough height. If you only lift by the engine, then you've got another 3 foot of gearbox to follow. I used a JCB to lift - works for both in and out. If I was working on a scrapper, I'd say Buckshot has...

    Captain!! There's a bit missing!

Maybe my turn to have the **** ripped as I'm no expert in this at all but...... With the front prop removed, wouldn't the transfer box have to be in lock mode? When you put the new front prop on, did you take it out of diff lock? If not, then maybe you're winding the centre diff up...

    Alternator, changing of pulley

Only my opinion as I've not had to change a Landy alt pulley but I usually wrap an old fan belt around the pulley, pull it tight then hold the belt in a vice. That stops the shaft moving and allows you to just use the right size socket.

    Wheel cover logo removal

Absolutely, but the heat tends to leave the glue behind. If it doesn't, job done but if the glue is there, you'll need one of the solvents.

    Wheel cover logo removal

It depends on the type of plastic and the print. You could start with white spirit, then on to meths or at a push use acetone based nail polish remover. Before you go ripping into the print, try a bit of each solvent on a bit that isn't too noticeable. once you're happy that the plastic...
