well it happened on my car after the battery had died too? and like with your TDI300 some of the functions worked but others didn't. I don't think you can reset the Relays they're just PCB's with resistors and chips all over them. which can fail if they are underpowered or get damp.

yep definitely agree, a land rover is too heavy to start off with so the less weight you can add the better!!! it is definitely worth spending the extra to reduce your weight.

Hey Buzzcox, the preload on the steering does make a difference (I'm guessing your bearings are good) the power steering unit on discos (well all landies of the age) is very soft naturally, so mixing that with bad bearings etc makes a hell of a shake.

is the oil dripping down the transfer gearbox (onto the inspection plate at the bottom)? it could just be a worn gasket on the inspection plate? you will find that these plates often leak around the bolts. wipe down the casing thoroughly (with degreaser) until it is spotless. then drive it...

ok to follow up: i have been working on the transfer gear (differential selector), after a few modifications i have found the the selector fork and the internal selector (which moves the physical gear selector inside the transfer box) have been bent up. I had to straighten the selector fork...

to follow up: i checked for earthing issues, in the end it turns out that someone has had the dash off in the past and muddled wires around, so i was getting very strange results... took half a day just to get all the wires sorted.

fitted new bearings on one axle, one the other axle i just had to remove a 0.03 shim which closed the "wear and tear" gap and gave the correct amount of torque / resistance on the steering.

I'm feeling socially responsible, so I'm putting follow ups on the forum: I re-welded the shock mount in the end, used an ARC 190 and 3.2MM rod, had to do a lot of cleaning. i also welded additional mild steel plates on either sides of the mount to strengthen the connections. have cained it...

Finally got a working solenoid from Bearmach, however unlike the last one which wouldn't let any fuel in, this one wouldn't cut the fuel (so the car would continue to run after the power was cut) - hilarious. are bearmach any good for anything, they seem very expensive and not very good...

Yep you were right, opened up the upper and lower swivels pins and found the bearings had slightly worn so that there was too much clearance the swivels I had to remove a few of the Shims to get it to sit correctly. Have ordered a new set of bearings!
