Its called the wobble of death among other things, well known. Could be steering damper, swivel preloads, bushes, bearings so on.

How much oil was there? a swivel holds about a mug full. I've just done both of mine, bugger of a job but glad its done now, I had just a dribble of oil but it was enough to spray the back door after a drive! The mot guy advised he would fail it next time if not fixed. Used one-shot again...

That would look better IMHO without the dustbin lids wrapped with a rubber band, don't like sick big rims. Lowering can look good or bad, the series 1 looks interesting, could go for a series hot rod - V8, open front, lots chrome, gloss black, no roof:) Or just build one of these...

I dried my mat out, fitted a new floor, sealed all the roof leaks and put the mat back. Been good so far.

I fell into the same trap after coming from a ford Mondeo diesel which would pull from walking speed in 6th, the disco is just a bit long in the tooth I think. My disco will accelerate from 40 in 5 th but she's not happy about it, likes to be kept in the power band - 1800 to 3000 revs. Yes...

I can't use 5th at 40 or 30, sounds normal me???? I wouldn't go into 5th until about 45-50

I think you'll find airbags have a life expectancy of ten years or so, chances are that it will work in an older vehicle, mine is 18 years old so who knows? What I'm saying is don't rely on the bag saving yer face. Keep an on the 'bay.

I can't comment on the rotary thingy cos I've never been there yet, but as for your auto dipstick lifting out on its own and the oil leak, try wiping it all down (free :)) and then pull the dipstick out and drive her for a bit. If its a blocked breather causing pressurisation causing the oil...
