Right, I have got my disco where i want it as far as suspension, tyres, bumpers e.t.c. Im happy its got enough protection on it so now I want to look at tuning it a bit.

At the momemt its slow, very slow, once you hit 60 its an age to get any faster. I have decat'd the exhaust and have blanked the EGR but its not really given me much more oomph.

Whilst I had the pipe off I felt the turbo and theres a little bit of play in the spindle, it doesnt feel like its boosting particularly well so im going for the turbo as the next bit to replace. Whilst there I shall clean out the manifolds and prob remove the ctr silencer as well, I may if I can get an intercooler fitted although im happy to do that at a later date...

So whats my options, another 300Tdi turbo or is there something else im better off fitting?

Oh, and any other tuning tips? I have done the fuel pump mod but again it made next to no difference which again brings me back to the turbo possibly??
 
first off id check timing is bang on ,often arent ,pump timing,can be adjusted to the point before it knocks ,holding center nut with spanner clockwise against pin while tightening 3 x bolt on pulley use drill bits sucessively smaller to achieve it, ie 9.5 ,9 ,8.5 8 etc,check if wastegaste is closing properly and isnt opening too early

Timing is fine, my guys only done the belt last week, it was like this before and after, it just feels a bit tired. Will check my wastegate but im sure thats ok, it just feels breathless really, runs spot on, just doesnt get a kick with the boost...
 
Assuming you have tweaked the injector pump for some more power,

you can get a bigger intercooler, hybrid turbo and lpg injection (fumigation) Allisport do all of this stuff and its all going on my disco as soon as I can afford it

With 100hp and over 2000kgs I don't think 'kick' will be noticed, more like a gentle groan really :eek::eek:

just doing belt with pin isnt accurately setting timing ,its only an average not necessarily the best
 
turn pump up and u can also take the float out of pump and turn it round but make sure u no what your doing other word can get worse
 
There are kits available to fit a T28 turbo but they are big bucks. I have been trying to find another diesel which uses a T28 as standard so I can get one from a breakers but haven't found any yet. I think the Mitsubishi pajero might be a t28 but I can't confirm yet. There are plenty of petrol cars which use a T28 size turbo but they are a lot les likely to have suitable geometry for a diesel.

You would also have to fit an exhaust manifold from a 200tdi as the turbo is built in to the 300 manifold.

the larger turbo would allow for more power with the right fueling and intercooler but would move the peak power further up the rev range which may not be what you want for going off road. a variable geometry turbo like the td5 has would give the beet other both worlds but will be a more complicated install.
