New headgasket and still bubbling from the expansion tank

The head was skimmed the first time we did the HG job. The 2nd time it was checked for warping but not skimmed because it was OK.

New headgasket and still bubbling from the expansion tank

The gasket that was installed is from Glaser. The mechanic sent me the instructions sheet and the torquing values and procedure is exactly the same as in RAVE, so that excludes a bad installation. Today it was tested for gases in the coolant and the result was positive :( So, even after testing...

RF Receiver - how much taking the p*ss

I remember that Island used to post prices without VAT and now all the prices are including VAT. Maybe that's the reason why you remember the price being lower ?

How would you go about connecting the EAS cable to the Android device ? AFAIK the androids aren't able to use USB in the outgoing direction.

Have you removed the EAS relay that's under the passenger seat (for RHD cars) ?

New headgasket and still bubbling from the expansion tank

The previous gasket was Land Rover OE, bought at a main dealer. The one that he has fitted now I don't know its origin to be honest.. The mechanic still hasn't gotten back to me on the instructions that he followed to tighten the head so I'm still hoping that's the problem.

New headgasket and still bubbling from the expansion tank

Thanks for the link. But buying a used head brings me to another problem that I've already posted about. What guaranties do I have that the head is OK ? Since mine is supposedly good after being checked for warpness and pressure tests but at the same time I'm having problems with it.

New headgasket and still bubbling from the expansion tank

It's still at the garage and the work is being done under the warranty of the previous HG work, so no worries there (so far). Tomorrow it is going to be tested for gases in the coolant and we'll know if it is leaking again or not. I've also asked the mechanic to send me the instructions that he...

New headgasket and still bubbling from the expansion tank

As many of you guessed, it hasn't been driven yet so there's no overheating. I know that there should be a steady stream of coolant from the bleed pipe but the problem is that, even after having been run for a few hours at idle, it stills shows some air popping up from the submerged pipe that's...

New headgasket and still bubbling from the expansion tank

Hi all. My indy mechanic put a new headgasket on my 2.5 DSE and after running it for a few hours on idle it seems that the hoses are still getting hard and it's possible to see air bubbles coming from the radiator bleed pipe into the expansion tank. I'm guessing that after a few hours of...

2006 SC Rangie reliability / longevity

One thing that has me worried about these new LRs is that you need to lift the bodywork to change the engine ! These won't be in my price range anytime soon (they are bloody expensive here in Portugal) but it seems that with each upgrade LRs are slowly moving away from DIY mechanics :( And...

    Kaiser Lockers

I'm not 100% sure about this but from old posts, in another forum, Ashcroft used to sell Kaiser diffs. Don't know why they don't sell them anymore. But they sell their own LSDs and, according to their site, the spacer ring that I was refering to seems to be aplicable in all sorts of diffs. Do...

    Kaiser Lockers

Kaiser makes specific models for the P38. Ashcroft sells a spacer ring that you can use to adapt the Defender's front and rear diffs to be used in the P38, so everything that's available to the Defenders becomes available for us.

    Kaiser Lockers

Has anyone from this forum fitted a Kaiser locker to their P38s ? I'm starting to look into this but can't find many people using LSDs. Most guys that have lockers fitted seem to be using ARBs ?

Thermostat done, here's a cheap tool

Data, when I had trouble removing my viscous fan I removed 3 of the 4 bolts in the water pump pulley and used a pressure plier to hold the shaft and then it was easy to undo using a 32mm spanner on the viscous fan side.

    How to check cylinder head

My DSE may soon need a new cylinder head and there's lots of talk around here that a cracked head may not be detected in a pressure test. So, my question is if I need to buy a new (2nd hand) head how can I be sure if the head is good before installing it, since there's a chance that it may be...

2.5 DSE - Cracked head without overheating ?

Got a call today from the shop that did the sniff test and the result is positive. I'm going down there tomorrow but from what the shop owner told me over the phone, it is leaking very bad. He said that as soon as he installed the testing kit the liquid turned from blue straight to yellow, so...
