Hi All,

Been thinking for a while about getting a Disco as a works vehicle. Had a Merc Sprinter which cost more to maintain than it did to buy. Some kind lady did me a favor and wrote it off so I now have a Citroen Relay which is showing the same thirst for spares as the Merc. I figure if I'm going to have something that needs constant maintenance I may as well have a Disco. Am I mad, probably yes, but temptation has come my way in the form of a '96 300Tdi 5 door, met red, 150k, drivers seat needs tlc otherwise everything works, body is tidy and it will come with 12 months mot. The good bit, £800 ish.

Thoughts/comments would be much appreciated

Just be wary of the two streams of cash flow in discovery ownership. Parts that you need and parts you want. :) so double running costs .

Am liking the general consensus and yes Discophil34 I can see some 'play' parts being added for out of work entertainment . . . . .

basically, you will need to replace bits without a doubt, however, parts are so cheap for the disco, so if you can do the work yourself, you're doing well :)

Look at it this way: It's got a year's MOT and cost £800. Even if it's a total wreck at the end of the year and needs so much work that it isn't financially viable to mend it, you're still ahead. :D

More positive replies, thank you each.

Going for another, more informed, look tomorrow when a decision will be made one way or the other. It will have to replace my van in the first instance before any thoughts of suspension lifts/bigger tyres etc can be entertained.
