whatever
when you replace a front wheel bearing on a defender do they come off with the hub or do they weld themselves to the stub axle?and if they do this do you need a new stub axle?

Depends how ****ed they are.

Also td5 have spacers of different sizes

Any use to you?

cheers, thanks for that getting the characteristic whine that a bearings on its way, only changed it a year ago,was a allmakes though,so will put a timken in this time garage changed it last time but doing this one myself now the tool kits building

I don't know where you buy your parts from but DA2379G is what you want, it's a Timken bearing kit with all the bit's you need

Might come off ok with judicious use of heat and hammer....... but I had one that was literally welded (with not a squeek of warning) so that was defo a new stub axle..... fingers crossed for yours. A

Some times you can get away with using an angle grinder with thin cutting disc and cutting most of the way through the inner race with bearing removed and then using a sharp chisel and hammer to split it but make sure you don't damage the stub axle hitting it ;)

+1 a diagonal cut most of the way and a sharp belt usually does the trick :)

Worth trying some heat first though

If you've not done it before You'll need something to help you remove the outer race from the hub too- like a bearing puller

I did mine in a car park with basic hand tools using the old race as a drift :p

+1 I keep an old race with a small 5mm piece cut out to use as a drift.

Tap it all the way home and then the small cut allows it to easily pop bk out.
