After a 7 year love hate relationship I've decided it's time to let the L322 go. As much as I'd like to keep it I don't have the space for it along side this

It's just over a year since my trusty 08 reg engine blew up, a couple of weeks having spent a fortune getting the brakes and suspension joints done. te next 2, 1 was disastrous, the next a Sport was ok but cracked wheels were costing a fortune and the body trim was loose everywhere. As I mention a while ago, in November 2024 I got a 60 reg TDV8 for a "song" but obviously with eyes open as to what it was likely to cost in hidden extras. So far, the oil cooler, the hot/cold valve on the heater side, just had the suspension ball joints done and new discs and pads on the rear. The second long journey abroad began on Thursday last week, 31st July 2025. We only live a short drive from dover, 25 minutes home to check-in. Irish Ferries boat 45 minutes late leaving. Got to the other side, I go via Dunquerque, Lille, Namur and Liege, then uphill towardsspa and Hoffalize, motorway all the way.
Wrong... the A26 from Lille was shut, diversion very badly signposted, I ended up on the Brussels ring road! Not to worry, it was late at night and raining, well, it IS Belgium. Round Liege, up the long drag on the E40 towards Spa, at the top of the hill car changed down a gear and on came the red triangle, yellow triangle and the reduced power engine light! No overheating, no low oil pressure, just limp mode. The rest of the journey to my chalet is mostly downhill. the engine was still running so thought I'd try to make it. Luckily I did. I switched the car off and restarted, hoping the fault would clear but no. Red and yellow triangles on. I phoned my European recovery agent the following morning and awaited the tow truck. I tried starting the car, this time no warnings at all! Same when the recovery man turned up. He had a look under the bonnet as they do, there was a faint ticking at engine speed. I'd heard it a few weeks earlier and thought noting of it. A browse around found it was the fan belt disintegrating!

He took it away to their depot about 40km away at Hoffalize. I'm waiting for a reply to my email to see what they find wrong and how much to put it right! Last time I had a fan belt go was nearer home, going across Romney Marsh at about 30 mph in the 2002 BMW Range Rover which I bought from new. Driving along, suddenly lost power steering, the dash lit up lke a christmas tree, battery light on etc. That lot cost a fortune to sort as the belt went through the aircon rad, the oil cooler, main radiator and a pump of some sort. That car cost more in repairs than it cost to buy. But still I go for another one!!

edit to add it was showing fuel consumption of about 30.4 mpg/10.4 km/litre at a steady speed of about 130km/h.
