shocker

Done some searches , nothing definitive comes up - has anyone actually done the deed and welded steel panels into the sunroof holes ? Now , I only ask out of interest - I am just repairing and resealing mine . But I was wondering how it would come out what with the possible , likely even , heat distortion , lumpy roof needing filling and reshaping so as not to pool water , big holes in roofliner etc .

I will re state that I AM NOT PLANNING TO DO THIS MYSELF - just interested to hear if others have . Seems less work just to fix them , but , would like to hear nevertheless......

A friend removed his roofs but did not weld ally plates over them, but riveted them in with plenty of sealant. If you can find a non sunroof lining then it will be a neat job.

Oh , I could weld them up , no probs...as I say , interested to hear if people HAVE ! Thanks for the replies....any more ?

I plan to at some point... I never use them and want a solid roof, wanna remove the alpine lights too l... All with the aim of making it more waterproof therefore less rusty!

I did just that afew years ago , never got it flat though . My mate did his , but , after doing mine we riveted his in place first then welded it , that was a lot better , not perfect , but better ...

if some one at the landy factory had saved all thoses sunroof and alpine light cutouts.

they would be making a fortune today selling them so we can weld them back in

I need to do my sunroof seals (and 1 rear 1/4 window seal) soon - is there a how-to or a write-up anywhere?

Yup, Daft did a water ingress thingy for the Disco 1, many freds for sealing 'em.

Search and ye shall, (might), find :D

Tried that Dips... difficult to sort the wheat from the chaff, but might try again when I have more time...

on my old disco i just sealed them up using sealant and removed the fuse to stop my kids opening them- Never actually used them much before and never leaked after sealing them.
