Dave's broke it

New Member
Hi I really hope someone can help me here cos I'm lost for ideas, after driving through puddles and having water spray up the engine loses power and wont rev above 3000rpm ( it also takes forever to geet to 3000rpm) if you turn the key off and restart the engine it is fine for about 30 seconds then does the same agian. Changed the MAF sensor as that seems to be a regular problem but it hasn't worked. Had a look round can't really see any electrics that are getting wet so i'm puzzled:confused: look forward to hearing from anyone who can help me.

Had a good look around but everything seems o.k, power returns to normal after about 50 -70 miles but in the mean time its a pain in the backside.

Hi Ming yes its a TD4 tried dissconecting the MAF and its just the same fitted a new MAF and its still the same. It first did this constant 8 months ago when running on bio diesel (veg oil) but when put it back on real diesel it was fine now it just does it when you get it wet.

hmmm strange one Dave , i don't think it is electrical and the getting it wet bit, well have a look inside ya ecu Rh's lookin in bonnet see if you can see any signs er damp inside ,check all ya leads inside engine for signs er water or chaffing especially ya maf leads, the only other thing it might be is yer drive by wire, , ,your accelerator pedal has a potentiometer and that could be goin tits when wet , but thats inside the cab . . .thats all i can fink off, but don't worry cos others will be along. . . .un best oh luck. . ..:)

Hi ming the only thing I aint checked yet is the fly by wire throttle will give it a good looking at though, Thanks for your help will let you know if this sorts it out.

ffs first the doors drop orf em now then the injun dint work... maybe its best just to keep them dry

I wunt o thought so dave......who telt yer ?????

Was it the same guy who told me that the MAF's are "calibrated" in their housing ??? (To withhold me of taking the MAF out for cleaning, it's supposed to be better and leave it till it breaks as he said. I have to admit he has a point as it was the owner of an autoparts shop...:D :D :D :D )

This could be my problem then cos i only fitted the guts not the whole thing. Suppose I'm best off not trying to save money:mad:. It was a technician (mechanic) from BMW that told me they needed coding in, and as its there engine I presumed he'd know what he was on with but that could just be a money making ploy:eek: .
