Me and my mate have recently gotten our hands on some older warn 8274 winches cheaply, that we plan on restoring and getting back in to service. The overall condition of the winches are fairly good, but being from '77 and '78 they do need a thorough service a few new parts, even though they have seen very limited use in their life.

Now, our main problem in the stripping down of the winches, is that the brake on both winches are stock on the axil. I'm not particually kean on bringing out the angle grinder if it can be avoided, as a gigglepin replacement brake assembly is £130.

So if anybody has any good ideas as how to free the outer shell of the brake assembly, please do share.

Ellers kunne man da godt vaere hofligt og sig hej inden du begynder med alle dine sporgsmal...

Needs to be soaked overnight in wd40 or similar. Heat it with a torch if necessary.

Oh I'm sorry - Hi.

Not sure what a Hi is good for other than being useless fill that takes longer to read and take up server space. I'm more in to getting to the point and staying on topic. It makes it a lot easier using the threats for future refferance and quick researching on the subject.

But then again I'm not frag hunting to achieve a high post count. I was recommended you forum as a place of wast knowledge and quick answers to issues. So honestly I did also expect the members to stay marginally within topic. Otherwise I could just have stayed on the national danish forum. 5 replies to the the original post - non of them relevant to the matter at hand.

Thank you now we are getting somewhere.

It has been soaking in WD40 for 4 days and is still as tight on the axil as if they was welded together.

Blow torch have not been tried yet. Will try that at first oppotunity.
