Personally i don't much care if the V8 is quicker than the diesel. If i want to go somewhere in comfort at reasonable cost i use the 2.5 DSE. If i want to go somewhere quickly and use lots of fuel i take the Porsche. Problem sorted.
As above except I take the MR2 go quickly and use very little fuel

Wammers, you have a Porsche! What's a sound and sensible guy like you driving around in a souped up volkswagen for?

I'm with you mate. But the paradox was that the V8 owners don't have a choice about how much fuel to use. The DSE will cruise all day at the speed limit doing 30mpg+ in total comfort. How quickly it gets to that speed limit is of little consiquence to me. The chip ensures that it gets there fast enough if required. I have no doubt that a V8 will get off the line a little quicker and so it should. But that extra grunt comes at a big fuel premium. Even if your running on liquified petroleum. Paying a lot extra just for a sound bite does nothing for me personally.
It is my toy. 4.7 litre V8 320 bhp 928s manual rare as hobby horse ****. Most were auto. **** off a shovel. It is being operated on in my garage. A long term project. Now that realy does sound like a V8.
By the way did you sort your B&B out?

Nope, the B&B I phoned in Chipping appear to have rubber eared by phone call. But I really don't think it will be that hard to find on the day (Sat).

I've had a Porsche among other things, biggest load of over hyped **** I ever owned, makes the P38 look faultless, it was nothing but trouble. The MR2 will give a 911 a fright on the twisties especially if it happens to be wet.
Each to their own, I like light fast and manouverable, you can keep you V8's, never liked the sound either, much prefer the scream of a 4 at 12000 rpm.

Maybe, but not a 928 it won't. Best handling Porsche ever made.
Know what you mean. What ever posessed Audi to win Le Mans with a diesel. You would have thought they would have used the easy option and gone for a petrol engine.
With petrol a 10p a gallon why have a diesel.
