if there is no air flow through rad on a warm day ,it will over heat ,ie stood in traffic jam but day to day driving air flow through rad due to speed of vehicle is enough

If you don't have a fan it will overheat if you're in standing traffic - how soon depends on how warm the day is. You really do need a fan - whether it be viscous or electronic like a Kenlow or equivalent, unless you live in Greenland.

What ever you do, do not fit the fan directly onto the radiator with the supplied plastic tie-raps that have to be put through the element. I just had a leaking rad. Because of that. I made metal strips on the frame of the rad. , see my post on this.

I removed the viscos fan and had to drive down to Montpellier in 35 Degree C. The temp gauge only moved towards the red when going up a very long hill. Didn't have to stop.
I have fitted a Kenlowe electric fan which I have had on for four years now and I have only heard it come on three times.
It has been through rivers and has held up OK.
Kenlowe fan cost about £150. New Viscos fan from Paddocks £39

I removed my Visc fan 2yrs ago, temp gauge never gets to center (12 o clock), runs around 11 o clock even after it's been running for hours.
Sat in traffic on the M25 in the summer last year and still 11 o clock. TS
