Hi Everyone

Just looking for a bit of a pointer really! My Range Rover was making a screaming sound for a wile and now the turbo has blown but when I was stripping her down I found oil in the 1st and 6th exhaust port of the manifold and I'm a bit scared now that the Head might be damaged ? is this possible ? plus there was a repair done on this car a wile back on the turbo and it seems to be a botched job as the bolts that came out seems to have rung threads and 2 of the exhaust bolts are snapped off as well I was told that with this many bolts and threads damaged its easier to replace the head ? I'm not sure I believe this advice 100% would appreciate some advice if anyone has seem this before.

To make a proper job of it the head needs to come off. Broken studs can be drilled and extracted and stripped threads can be helicoiled. If it was mine I wouldn't even consider changing heads.

If it were me changing the head would be a last resort. As long as none of the impeller fins from the turbo have found there way into the cylinders. I would have the head skimmed and pressure tested.

However, you say it was a botched job by the previous owner! Looks like he did what he needed to do to get rid of it, so don't be too surprised with what else you will find.

Surley as these heads are ali they can suffer from warping!

If the head is warped, it's fecked, no margin for skimming.

Hi All thanks for the Advice

I found it really helpful just one thing I will ask if the head was warped surely there would be different symptoms? but I will remove the head and post my findings

Heads are more prone to cracking than warping. Just fix your turbo problem.
