It does not seem to be doing it like it was now, there appears to be now slipping as such, but i set the timing and after a few turns round i lined marks up and ep mark is 6mm off the pointer.

I have noticed that where the join in the chain is it does not sit right on the sprocket. It leaves a gap compared to the other links which sit flush.

Off with the chain and i noticed that where the join is, the join plate that can be removed has allowed the link gap to be bigger that all the others causing an un even fit.

The holes on it have become ovaled.

Now what i'm thinking is that this dodgey link is causing the chain to move slightley and put the timing out?

I did think the join looked abit dodgey, not surprising with some of the bodges on this landy!

New chain it is then!

Replaced the chain and some other bits and now got it all rebuilt and running. Smoking quite alot so need to get pump in the right place.

Think i've got it, runs pretty much clear at idle, but on initial acceleration bit of black which then clears almost completley.

IIRC the mark is inside the pump insp cover ,( but it is a very long time ago now:Cry: ) but it sounds like you pretty much got it . a diesel needs to sound crisp , if it sounds soft then you need a bit more advance on the injection point .
