I was considering one a while ago but decided against it. The idea is it acts like a twin turbo system do reduce turbo lag. Spools up fast like a little one then at higher revs/speeds acts like a larger one. Ideally giving best of both worlds.
Alisport do one and its costs around £1100 and is highly recommended that you fit a full size performance intercooler (£350 - £600) as well. Also as your adding a bigger turbo a suitable re-map would be required to get the most benefit from it (£225 - £500). Then you have the worry of EGT tempts if they get to high constantly then you risk warping your manifold which can be replaced with a standard one or skimmed or the Alisport tubular steel one (£600) though my thoughts about a steel tubular manifold is that its often going to hit 700 - 800c what happens when it hits water? Could crack...
Check out TD5inside they do an upgraded standard Garrett unit which is cheaper at ~ £600, theres a thread I put up in the TD5 section about it -

I've got one on my D2.
I got it from alive tuning, it's essentially the body of a stock GT2052 with bigger internals. Mine's also a billet compressor which is a bit lighter so spools earlier.
Real world it starts to spool at ~1500rpm so is better than stock.
Top end it's phenomenal.
But, you really do need to improve other bits of the car to get the most from it, bigger intercooler, boostbox/uprated MAP, remap. It all adds up.
No way does it result in more mpg, it's just too easy to cane it about.
Oh, forgot to add, I also fitted an Allisport uprated cast manifold. Bent the stock one, split a tubular one! Also have replaced my cylinder head because I reckon I cracked one of the exhaust ports due to high EGT. In short, stay clear if you want hassle free motoing.

Roger! That's pretty much what I needed to know. I don't plan on selling ever. But I do like the idea of upgrading parts as time goes on and things fall off. So maybe I can work it in long down the line when I have better everything else. Thanks!

To be honest I reckon you would be happy with a re-map but by the looks of it you have a 2001 TD5 which means you need a chip soldered onto your ECU as it doesnt have an OBDII port, Mike at Dynachip can do this easily.
I'm fitting a performance intercooler over the weekend so shall report back with how it feels compared to before....
Map £225, Intercooler £350 - £575 cheaper than a VNT and better value IMO.
Bennehboy have you got a link for the uprated cast manifold? Looks like something I would be interested in, in the future.
