Dear all,
Can anyone help me please? My 2003 1.8 Freelander tailgate will not open. When I squeeze the handle, the glass drops but not quite enough to clear the roof seal and the door just wont open (feels like the lock is still completely engaged and has not opened at all). I also know that when squeezing the handle it doesnt sound correct (always used to hear a perky "click, click" (double click) coming from the handle and now I dont hear any noise form the handle at all. I can raise and lower the glass completely fine using the dashboard switch. Its strange because I assume that the swich in the handle is working as other wise the glass would not be moving as it does? Any help/clues would be much appreciated. This has been driving me crazy over the last few weeks trying to understand whats at fault,
Thanks in advance, kindest regards,

I acctually spent hours trying to get mine to work, and it turned out to be a couse of human error, I din not open all the doors with the fob.. have a look at my thread, found here.

Hi, thanks for directing me to your previous thread, I had already found that one from a search before poosting my new one. But thank you anayway, really helpfull especially your pictures of the disassembled handle etc, thank you, but I have ensured that I have double pressed the fob to allow (in theory) the boot to be opened. Indeed, when squeezing the boot release handle, the rear glass does drop a little but as mentioned , not quite far enough and also I just do not hear any noise from the handle (used to hear the destinctive "click-click" of the handle/switch/lock mechanism from inside bthe handle...)

If it helps, I do seem to remember that in the run up to this failure, the lock at times did seem "slow to respond" to the hndle being squeezed. Ie. a second or so delay before the desitinctive "click-click noise" from inside the handle and the lock releasing - now there is nothing though nd it just does not release...

Although I know Im probably quite clearly indicating that this sounds like the lock mechanism has just jammed/ failed, I was hoping someone may be able to advise me their views as, the glass will also need to drop a wee bit further as well (to clear the roof seal) - would this happen if the lock worked properly or is the CCU wholely responsible for the amount that the glass drops when the handle ios squeezed?

Any other ieas or info would be really appreciated,

Thanks so much,
