Hi gang,

This is my first post and I’m after some help/advice and general support…

My front passenger door on the Freelander 2 stopped working from the outside, so you couldn’t open the door unless you used the internal handle.

I googled and found I needed to replace the door actuator, and after watching many YouTube videos and spending many hours working on the car, I was delighted when, having put everything back together again, it all worked.

However, after testing it a few times, the door stopped opening from the outside unless I pressed the unlock button on the key fob again. Then… it just stopped opening all together, and this was from both the outside door handle and the inside door handle.

Now realising I am in a worse position than before, as I can no longer use the front passenger door, and also, cannot remove the door card to try and diagnose or fix the issue, quite frankly, I am despairing!!

I’m hoping there are some wise Landy people out there who might be able to advise on my next steps please?

Thank you very much in advance!

Can't help that much, but in most regions pressing the unlock button on the fob once will only unlock the drivers door. It needs to be pressed again to open the other doors.

HI did you buy a new lock or a second hand one of ebay? if the later it maybe have gone it's self and you were just unlucky, or it maybe just sticking due to the weather.

Try some silicone spray.

Hi gang
I got similar problem in Freelander 1 year 2004 rear passenger side door permanently locked.
Tried every mechanical way to unlock . All failed. As the cable came off from interior unlock handle, cannot reach that part manually behind the door lock box (such a nasty place). It seems outside door handle and inside door handle connected to the same mechanism. The central locking pop up lever part which operate from key fob has come off.
Can't get access to the 3 screws holding the door lock to replace the faulty lock. I can put my hand through from inside and manually slide what the outside door handle does, but no luck releasing the catch to open the door. My last resort will be the hard one, remove the door from hinge side by removing the hinge bolts and lift the door out and pull or shake it out it out. Is there any other way less traumatic? Any other way please? Desperately waiting some lock expert will shed some light Please!

Fl1 lock will be different to fit from a FL2 i watched a chap named Tom fit a Freelander 2 door lock in about 25 minutes he made it look so easy, reason being he's done hundreds he said.
