Right, in my D90 I have the sunroof which is operated by the spinning dial that opens it about 10cm max. I at some point in the future want a fully opening one so I can stand out the top and shout at people.
Has anyone attempted this before? I was thinking some kind of system where the glass swings into the the roof lining behind the front seats. How feasible does this sound? Or have I had too many E-numbers tonight?
Awaiting sarcasm.
But a serious response in the midst of it would be nice. :)

Really? Because the dial dictates the height of the glass? Also I need a solution which doesn't go above the roof as I have roof rack and I spend time up there. So wouldn't want to put my foot through anything.

Cheers. I'll take a look! Aiming not to spend a tonne of money. and I think this may be a pricey site! I forget

The link does work for me! But it's not what I'm after due to the roof rack. And the price is hefty. Thanks though!

You make it sound so simple. Truth is I haven't had a good look at how what why yet. I was trying to gauge my idea to see. But I will check that theory out! Cheers

it was when i had one on one of my old cars, that is how it is fitted into the frame, take a look and you will see.;) if i remember correctly,it was just a roll pin passed through the parts, drive the pin out, then the glass can be removed.

The one you have lifts out, you just need a flat blade screwdriver.

Open the roof to its highest, then look at the back of where the wheel is, you will see a bit of metal with a notch in it, using the screwdriver in the notch you push (IIRC) and the hinge comes apart, tilt roof up further and it comes out.

I do mine about once a year to clean and lube the seal, keeps me a non leaky, working sunroof.

Refitting is just a matter of put glass back in and snap the hinge back together.

I have (had till last weekend) the other type which is a double hinged affair at the lever end. You open it up to its fullest, then there is a switch which you push over which opens a little spring clip allowing the lever to be disengaged. Then as you push the sunroof open more it pops the hinges out at the front. Very simple.

Not sure if they were standard fit?

Brilliant help. Cheers! I have been getting dripped on of late. Putting it down to condensation more than anything. But now i know it's simple. I'll take it apart and give a clean non the less

mine leaked like a git when I got it, took the roof out, loads of grit had accumulated along the front edge, washing up liquid/water for a good clean up, then some olive oil to lube the seals (dont use vasaline, it makes the seals swell)

Thanks! I'll be sure to do that after holiday!
