im wiring to front spotlights to my 96 disco 300tdi auto but need some advice on which wire i need to attach the spotlights wire to for them to work when the the full beam is switched on? ive wired the spots thro a inline fuse(20amp) to a relay, point 87,both spots earthed to body and relay point 85 earthed to same point, relay point 30 i will connect straight to battery, but im stuck on where to wire relay point 86 which is supposed to connect or join the headlight wire that is for full beam but i havnt a clue which wire to look for or what colour it is?? any help much appreciated

Just use a test meter to see which wire going into the headlamp, goes live when you put high beam on?

not havin a larf, just not that good with electrics,is there a easier way eg colour of wire? wouldnt know how to test lights using volt meter anyway lol im good at following drawings or diagrams but after that im clueless

Have look behind the grill you may be lucky to have a disco which is pre-wired for spots as all later D1's are. You are looking for two sockets.

blimey they saw you coming didn't they!!!! a fiver for a fuse and a relay! mine cost me nothing!

thats maplins for ya , looks like i got to learn how to meter test tomorrow then seein as no one has come up with a coloured wire to hack into

you don't need a multi meter you can use a test light, pull the connector off of the bulb, attach one wire from a good earth (batt - is very good lol) then put the headlights on main beam (hi beam if you will) and test each one in turn as dip beam isn't used when main is on (apart from the pass/flash function) only one wire will be live and that one is the one you want

Nearside headlight main beam wire is Blue / Slate

Offside headlight main beam wire is Blue / Orange

Connect into either to operate your relay
