Evening all, after taking my range rover in under warranty with inoperative compressor and being told that the n/s height sensor is reading a fault which is why it wouldn't work I agreed for them to replace it! Then next day (yesterday afternoon) they fitted the height sensor and she still wouldn't go up?!?! So asked if they tried another compressor? Yes sir we sure have however that won't work either so advised they can keep it in and further try and diagnose the problem BUT I will have to pay £100+ per/hour until they source it!!! So I asked for car back and picked it up earlier today after paying £150 for height sensor!! I this evening went to a friends house who has a p38 with a good working compressor, we switched them over and wooolllla!!! It worked!!! Started the car and compressor came on as usual and she went up!! Plugged mine in to my friends and low and behold it wouldn't work!! Now as you can imagine I am rather ****ed off!! Where can I go from here?? All I no is there going to get a mouthful in the morning!!!!

Thermal switch, it would appear the dealer mechanic doesn't have a bloody clue what he is doing.

Do you think I should get my money back for the height sensor?? I no they didn't order in a new compressor and I fear the one they apparently used to test it was the one I first bought which never worked?!!!

They obviously don't have much idea what they are doing. You have been told how to check the thermal switch just a multimeter needed. Do the garage not have one? It's not bloody rocket science. No continuity Orange wire on plug to Black wire on plug on compressor, switch is duff.

I have checked it in wammers how to, and it doesn't work! However they will not take it that the compressor is duff! They blame the wiring or the ecu?! :(

I suggest you print a copy of the explanation of the compressor circuit i posted and take it to show them. They are obviously effin clueless.

And when you have done that, don't go back to them for any further work. Find some one else who might actually know what they are doing!

I have heard this problem so many times, the amount of garages that don't understand the thermal trip on the compressor.
What's worrying is , they are usually land rover mechanics!

Work done under warranty and they fitted wrong part, clueless to sort simple problem, demand all your money back, small claims court etc.

Misdiagnosis you shouldn't have to pay anything. they said height sensor would fix concern you agree in good faith that it would cure and they are sure it will fix the fault. They fitted it problem not solved. Its very simple you shouldnt have to pay for a part that hasnt fixed your concern end of!!!!!! I hope you get your money back. One thing I would suggest is find another dealership and get them to give a report and send the bill on to the other garage its one idea ive seen work before.

Yeah it's all kicked off with them today!! I called the hap in parts who said and I quote "I ordered the compressor in and it's still sat on my desk in the box, I no your car was here and I also no that no mechanic fitted it to see if it worked or not" So the service chap lied to me! Not impressed in the slightest! In November when I bought it I told them it was faulty, they wouldn't replace and said it's got an air leak and burning out the compressor!! I changed everything, airbags, had airlines checked and new fuse board etc!! For it to have always been a fault with the compressor!! Do I take them to the cleaners for the full amount? What do u think???

Hope it's the Giant Spring Clean:D:D:D

Well I like to think I'm in with a chance, the centre I run spends around £1500-2000 a week at this place!! They would be foolish to **** me off to much! :D

Id stop using them until this problem is resolved go straight to the service manager or jump him and go to the general manager
