Agree lynall , I kept series 3 exhaust but mines a di, does that downpipe fit to the S3 manifold or the tdi manifold
Some info here from 300,

Just read that, So it is better to keep the pipe to 2.5, so If I bought one of the steve parker down pipes then fit something the same diameter to make a full exhaust up, Or even try and fabricate my own downpipe, .
No way I am paying a grand for an Exhaust. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/22684207...F81XVW&hash=item34d0d76360:g:ghMAAeSwgEdoYuth

Anyone used Flexi exhaust pipe ?, got this down pipe had to cut it as it was hitting chassis in first pic , but was thinking if I attach a short piece of Flexi to it just to get down and along through to other side of bulkhead, then I could add normal middle and silencer.

Flexi will work for a while, mild steel flex short life span, stainless steel longer life span, but even they stiffen up and then split after time.

Starting new thread on this.
Some will know I am doing a 200tdi conversion to Series 2. Just finished rebuilding the engine which was stressful enough but basically I have hit a brick wall. Think the rest is going to be much more harder. I knew this was not going to be easy but been reading info on Glencoyne , he mentions it will be easier with no Turbo, but after reading on it seems very complicated. Now would rather do it With Turbo on but dont mind if I have to do it without.
Starting to Panic Now, đŸ˜³ I am at the stage now where engine and box is back in to rolling chassis, got most of the body parts, Bulkhead, wings rear tub bonnet front grill etc. But thats it.
Do Not have
Exhaust ,
Radiator.
Intercooler
Hoses,

There's loads more bits I need.
Any Info or pics of how others have done it will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Ill put in my tupence worth. Im running a S3 with 300tdi without the turbo (300di). It makes sense for me Im on my third gearbox build (,albeit the first gearbox was not up to much and had had a hard life). I have an ashcroft hi ratio transfer case which means all gears are in overdrive all the time. This is just perfect for the engine. It does 50mph easily (and some)and i feel that the brakes are adequate at that speed. As well as that im 3 or so years after the build and the steering has loosened up to the point that i now understand what series drivers talk about wandering over the road. It does lack a bit, towing heavy loads (I towed a disco 1 slowly up hills recently) If I had an r380 gearbox range rover diffs power steering and a disc brake conversion then I would fit the turbo.

Easier just to buy the disco surely?

Interesting does the 300 mate to the series gearbox directly, or is adapter needed, I’ve got 200 in mine and that’s pretty much a straight fit

It mates up "ok" Most of the bolts line up especially at the top of the engine but for the bottom I had to drill holes in the bell housing to match the engine. But no need for a spacer.

That’s what I wondered as I did the 4 extra bolts in the bottom for the 200 di, so are you saying even with the di it’s over stressing the series gearbox

In my opinion the series vehicle was designed with the power of the 2 1/4 engine in mind. (I know they did a v8 later but it had upgraded features like a tougher gearbox brakes etc i believe) The gearboxes are crap. Especially those brass bushes which tear themselves apart as your going up a hill. I very often meet guys at events with series vehicles who have left the turbo on. But usually i don't see them the next year, or if i do there in another landy. If you want the look of the series vehicle with the performance of a 300tdi then that's fine, but you need to do the upgrades that went with the vehicle it came out of, if not be prepared for ? "Go anywhere!"(but mostly back into the garage to sort the gearbox again!)

Im going to do a chassis swap with a richard chassis which is S3 but has mounts/ takes a 300tdi engine removable crossmember for r380 and power steering box. Sorted!
P.S. To be fair ,So far this incarnation of the gearbox has performed well with a couple thousand miles on it.,the transfer cases(with 2 or 4 wheel drive are indestructible and without the turbo I recon the 300tdi will run forever

I've a TDI 200 in my series, with uprated head and IP. I tow with it, and have been known the push it hard. No problems with the box, but I change the oil annually. And I change gear slowly. Ten years since I fitted the turbo.
Well I knew someone would come along and say they pull a horse box with two horses in it round the world twice a year, since 1990 . I did say its my opinion now i might change it and fit two turbos like a D4 !.Only joking. what is IP?
I change the oil at the beginning of each month (top it up)as its mostly migrated to the transfer case and has dripped all over the garage floor. It pours out that fantastic felt seal at the hand brake drum so much so that ive taken to parking on an downhill slope to minimize the loss I am always amazed at how much it takes and have to let the excess out the transfer case There crap! Annually !
I wish, there would be nothing in it.

Back to Exhaust again, Found Another supplier here very well made. same principle. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/116589559348
Fits well but goes under the crossmember, is that normal dont really think there is enough room to go through top. he recommends 19j TD exhaust, to join on. Glencoyne recommend 200tdi bits , so not sure which to get, Really hard unless I had them in front of me to offer up, Im bound to order the bloody wrong ones.
