If the pipe(s) are badly rusted, no amount of "Camouflage" or tarting up is going to cure them. From a safety point of view, because the rust has already penetrated into the steel, just replace them with copper/cupro nickel piping....cheap as chips.

A few years ago I wire brushed what I thought was some light surface rust off the rear axle brake pipe on my Disco but I forgot to grease it and the tester spotted it and failed it. When I came to remove the pipe to replace it, it ruptured as soon as I tried to release it from its clips. Lesson learned......

Around a tenner for 25 ft. of 3/16" dia copper and a few pence each for M10 X 1mm pitch brake pipe nuts. You will need a brake pipe flaring kit and a mini pipe bender helps. Have a look on Ebay for the stuff.

For a Freelander, all the brake pipes can be made from copper for less than £30. You will need to buy a flaring tool and a mini pipe bender, both will set you back another £30 to £40. So potentially you can change every pipe for less than £100 with fluid. For that small amount of money, it's just not worth talking a risk with rusty pipes.
