Had a look under my boot carpet earlier. The floor is shafted:(

Is that sound proof stuff supposed to come off easy? It seems stuck down or is it just sticking to the rust???

I searched previous posts about rear floor and found a couple but theirs didn't seem quite the same in that the bit at the back of the car that the rubber seal clips over was still sound. Mine is rotten, especially on the left hand side. I guess I'll need to pay somebody to weld in new metal on those bits but the rest of the floor it seems possible to do myself.

Any comments or suggestions?
 
Dont look too bad to me! Get the rubber mat up and have a look see. How does it compare to mine? Just bought this one as a project for the summer.. autumn..winter probably through to next summer!! If its rotten rip it up and replace it.

I've just done mine and it was probably in a similar state to yours!

Parts Replaced Include Rear load space floor and all supports, Inner wing floors both sides and the rear body cross member. o/s/r shocker mount. rear seat belt mounts.

It took me around about a month, though tbh i wasn't working on it every spare minute.

It's cost me around about £500 by the time i'd bought all the bit's and stuff that goes with it.

The bit that your pictures shows is the rear body cross member. the cheapest place i found for parts was Here

It's not a dificult job but it is rather time consuming.

Crikey, BB's makes mine look brand new! Did the missus know about this planned summer/autumn/winter project?

Boggled, that rear body crossmember is the bit with the sticking up part that the sealing rubber mounts over, right? That was the bit I was most worried about since it looks attached to parts that don't look like they come off...
Presumably you need to cut the old one out and get the new one welded in? Also do the screw mountings for the plastic cover come attached to it?

Well JB would you believe it was the wife that found out about this Disco being up for sale and pestered me rotten till I went and viewed it. SHE started ripping the interior out and the rubber mat etc while I was busy gardening. She got stuck with the rear seat belt mounts as they were siezed solid which is when I got involved and she got the camera out. She's pretty handy with an angle grinder too (from SIII days). She's gorgeous too. If she'd only stop demanding sex all day, I'd get some work time to fix this Disco! Brrrrrrrrrrrrrriiiinnnng! **** there's the alarm clock, time to wake up, must had dozed off halfway through this reply! Regards Bigbird

Did you have to jack up the body to gain access to weld in the rear body crossmember, or just butt joint it at the ends.

Also as my sills are shot too, I wondered if anyone as any advice on replacing those? Does the rear quarter outer skin have to come off?

Ta in advance for any replies to this one. Pics would be nice too.

Right....

The body cross member is spot welded to the rear pillars at the base of them if you take the light clusters out you can (just about) drill the welds. Undo the body mountings (these are behind the bumber so that needs to come off)

The plastic clippy things that hold down the plastic strip thing that holds the carpet down are NOT part of the rear cross member as i found out! If i can find the part number for you i'll post it up here.

With the rear body cross member off i also took the door off as there's a lot of weight in it to be hung off nothing in particular when it's open!

When i can get some pictures up to my webspace i'll post them up here.
 
Thanks boggled. I took the mat out to have a good look and it's a real mess down one side and both the side floor sections are **** as well. Did you have to replace the internal wheel arches too and was that tricky?
 
JB; For the Wheel arches I bascially cut out the bottom inner edge that was shafted and then welded a new peice on to the bottom of it ground it down and bob's your uncle! As for whether it was tricky......not really but i've got some experience of doing stuff like that.

The shape wasn't difficult to form as the gate post in the back garden is curved stone!

If yours neede the wheel arches doing completely it'll be a much larger job.

The panels that are attached to the wheel arches are the inner wing floors.
