Hello everybody,

I’ve noticed a strange issue with my Land Rover disco 1 during the summer. Even when the A/C is off, the footwells both on the driver's and passenger's side seem to have warm air. It feels like heat is constantly coming through and its getting hotter when i step on the gas, making it quite uncomfortable. I have talked with a mechanic and he told me that probably all the factory insulation is bad, and if i want that fixed he needs to take the dashboard off and replace it. But it will be vert expensive. For your information the insulation under the carpet was replaced in the past with gym rubber carpet when they repaired floor rust.
Additionally, I’ve observed that air keeps coming out of the vents even when I’ve closed them.

Do you know what might be causing this, and how I can fix it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The heater system installed in the 300 series D1 is an air blending system therefore the heater matrix is always the same hot temp as the engine coolant flowing through it, to control heat entering the cab is by turning the two temp controls marked from cold to hot… as u already know. this will open or close damper flaps. Also direction of the air flow can be controlled.

So if none of the above functions they should be, then u should find out why.

If your vehicle has a V8 with an automatic gearbox then the area below the centre console can get warm but shouldn't be an issue if the vehicle has a functioning A/C system.
