Hi All....Ive just bought a dodgy 1999 di freelander
The discription was that it was like driving over small rocks

However it sounds morelike the rear diff is trying to shake the whole rear end to bits
Any advise would be greatful :decision:

Thank you for looking

A bit more info and we could have a stab at a diagnosis.

as it stands it sounds like your diff is shagged

As you drive along it sounds like you have a bag of spanners rattling around the underneath your car.
When you pull away you hear something clonk as the clutch takes up the drive?
Can i strip this one down in while in the vehicle or remove it?

Take the prop off and try driving it again

All the invoice states Driveshaft LH RH Land Rovercross Dock @ £73 the pair:confused:

CORRECTION it was only for 1 i guess they are not handed ie can use the for both

Hmmm

both fronts are not handed, not sure about the rears.

if the ird has been replaced and the vcu was in good nick, it could still be a few other things rattling, check condition of driveshafts and centre bearings on vcu.

jack up one wheel on the back then turn the wheel and listen for noises coming from the diff.
if you do a search on here you will find out lots of faults and their remedies ;)

Judging by the noise coming from it i very much dont think so.
Bearings & crown wheel might have exploded but im no way an expert
It sounds like there is a box of spanners under the rear end sorry to say

all the same apart from v6, later ones were strengthened with bigger bearings.
but all will fit apart v6
