Hi.

Weird problem, when the nights started getting colder my rear bumper level lights on my 52 plate Freelander started to look damp. It is now at the point that during the day water droplets cover the inside of the light lenses, distorting the light and generally looking stupid. It seems to be affecting both sides. Anyone any ideas how to cure this? Similar problem happened for anyone else?

I keep unscrewing the two torx screws and drying the insides of the lenses with some rolled up kitchen roll, but the condensation forms again.

Any help much appreciated. Trying to get the car winter ready, had some new Goodyear Wranglers fitted today, and this prob with the lights is getting on my nerves.

Thanks
John

Its a common problem seals around the edge just dont seal anymore ,i sprayed wiff clear laquer but changed them in the end. . . . .

Thanks Guys.

Will check the bulb seals. Will also fill the lenses with clean water to make sure there aren't any cracks or holes letting water in. Anyone got a part number for the bulb seals/replacement bulb holders?

I removed both lenses and inspected them. There was a thin layer of mold/algae inside the lamps covering the entire casing and some of the clear lenses. Gave them a thorough wash out & bleached them to make sure. Then filled them with water and dried to check for leaks on the lenses, not a drip on either.

Fitted them back on the car making sure to fully clean the bulb holders/rubber seals, and applied a layer of vulcanised rubber from a puncture repair kit to the rubber seals and the mating surface on back of light clusters.

Hopefully that will be problem solved. The fact that there was so much algae in them suggests that there has been a small layer of water in the bottom of the clusters for ages, possibly since last winter in the Scottish snow.

Thanks for the help guys
John

I had a similar problem on my old Opel Manta A (back in the '70's) and I fixed it by drilling a couple of holes in the underside, that way the water which came in could also get out. As there were two holes in it I guess it could allow a kind of "draft" while driving as never had problems with it afterwards.
