I've been doing some work on my brothers 90 td (soon to be loaned to me).

I've changed the fuel filter and whilst bleeding air from the system I've sheared the bleed nut off the top of the injector pump. Massive d'oh.....

I can't believe I'm the first to do this and Mr Craddock want to flog me a new injector pump for the best part of 500 quid:eek:

any ideas of a good way to plug the hole?

Is there much pressure inside the pump(if I stick a self tapping screw in the hole to plug it up)?

Looking forward to any replies cos I'm a tight wad and there's no way I'm spending 500 sheets

If it has sheared off in the closed position then you can bleed the air out of it by slightly undoing each injector in turn and pumping the fuel through. This should get rid of all the air in the system. If its broke and in the open position then I think you might be buggered

**** it, weld the bastard and bleed through injectors.

(never actually seen the pump so don't know of its possible, I just enjoy being a rough arse :D)

I'll torch the landy before I buy a new pump.

The whole thing has sheared off leaving a small hole. The pump itself is an alloy casing so I can't weld it. I just need to plug the hole with something

anyone ever tried this metal glue stuff they sell at b&q?

I'd suggest drilling and tapping but you don't wanna get swarf in the IP. chemical metall is great but won't stick if there's oil in the hole. so you'd have to get the diesel off the metal first. A bit difficult on an IP. Looks like you need to get on ebay.

If its the screw I think he means on the governor housing on top of the pump, it is only two nuts and remove lnkages to remove it and he could clean it right up and drill and tap. If its the screw on the pump body thats not so good.

From memory (it's parked outside my brothers house) there are four allen key bolts in each corner and the thing that's come off is a 10mm bolt with the bleed screw inside it

Have you tried an easyout? If its got a hole in the middle then an easy out should get it with no swarf.

The governor housings are slightly different, you rs may have four bolts.
If the bleed fitting is on that housing you should be OK but be very careful not to get dirt in the pump when you open it and get a new gasket from an injection place for when you have fixed the fitting.

You've got two options really depending on how you want to attack the problem. If you're happy with a botch, then you could pop down to your local car parts place and buy some 'metal compound' goop that you warm up in your hand and then push into the recess. It will seal it but how long it will last is anyones guess. The other, "proper" alternative is to remove the top cover from the injection pump and then re-tap the hole and fit a new bleed bolt to suit. I can't remember whether or not the threaded bit is actually a brass insert - you should be able to tell if you have a good look. The problem with this method is that the governor will more than likely dislodge its self and you'll need a re-seal kit to do it properly. There is also the chance that you'll strip one of the bolts holding the top cover on too of course. Personally, I'd be tempted to just re-tap the hole with the pump in situ and then prime the system so that any swarf that has dropped down into the hole (it'll float on the diesel) comes up and out of the recess. Others will disagree but it'll provide a quick fix if you're not too fussed about the machine in general.

I'd do the metal epoxy. If the area is flat, clean up around the hole and stick on a 1p. Should be easier to clean the area than inside the nipple.. and as a bonus it increases the value of the 90!
