Simple question - Do I really need one of these or will a bog standard socket set do the job?

Its for my Discovery 2 if that makes a difference (I suspect not)

I've got one, but I find that a pair of good quality 9/16" open-ended spanners work better.
A standard socket will work, but 3/8" square drive is better than 1/2".
 
I've got one but I always managed before I bought it. It speeds things up a bit though a long thin bodied 9/16th socket is probably just as good.
 
Makes life easier if you can get to the nuts on top of the propshaft, where the yoke is open and gives a bit more space to work.
 
Brilliant - thanks everyone - I'll rest easier knowing I'll be able to get on with the job when the bits arrive.
 
I got one but I found it didn't quite get in there and I had to grind it thinner - I could have done that to a normal socket and saved £15 - and anyway I end up using 9/16 or 14mm spanners a lot anyway cos the socket won't get past the yokes half the time. Sometimes it wastes more time to try and get it past the yoke then find it's not going to do it, than just to use spanners in the first place.

use a ratchet ring spanner sometimes too

yeah the 1/2 drives are too thick, the thin wall on the 3/8 drive makes it a lot better
 
iv always struggled with sockets or spanners even with wheel in air. not enough space to turn em. didnt realise there was a special tool, might have to get one. where would sell these? i get most my stuff from halfords
