Hi all
A week ago whilst rushing in the dark to drop the engine oil out,(1995 P38 2.5DSE) i stupidly cracked open the Auto G/box drain plug and lost about a pint of oil..
Drove the couple of mile home and topped it up as handbook states..

Done 300 mile the following week in France and all was well.

On a local run the other night,i got a bleep and G/box failure message up and lost sports mode. Was real struggle to pull away, like a slipping clutch upto around 2500rpm,but no jerk between gear change when you was moving..Due to the location i had to drive on and it was only struggling on actual pull away but badley,,,,drove and changed ok at speed.

A couple of mile down the road i got "G/Box overheat message",,i managed to get it off the road and turn it off, with the theroy of letting it cool and heading home in 10 mile stints...Open the bonnet and i had white clouds with the smell of cooking G/box oil...Let it cool down for 15mins..Turned the key and all was well..No messages,no slipping etc?
Have done around 100 miles with no problems at all, checked the oil in the morning and was on level??

Question is,,,Is it possible to get an Air Lock in the Cooler Rad?Ive not got spotlights fitted and no obstructions to the rad..
Any suggestions would be appreciated..Cheers,Tel

maybe an airlock may has caused this but i always thought the high pressure in the system will easily push air out!
when was your g/box fluid and filter last changed?
maybe worth a change as precaution if nothing else to remove possibly burnt fliud.
thats what i would do................
bet you want a hand too?

me and my big mouth!

Well its crap on telly Christmas day,and the pub shuts at 3....
So bring ya drain tray!.
Sure ive got a G/Box filter upstairs...

IMHO I would do as suggested and change the oil and filter, but as a precaution I would do it again at the next service too just to make sure that you remove any traces of cooked oil out of the gearbox as it will have mixed with your new oil by then. With a bit of luck you might be OK. Touch wood etc.
