This is a question for Datatek, having finally completed my engine swap in my 96 2.5 dse, i'm now sorting out all the little snagging bits before i put it back on the road after an overheating issue killed the previous engine, iv'e fitted Datatek's cooling fan mod and set it up as per the instructions (followed to the letter, makes a change for me!) the fans cut in perfectly just after the temp reaches 90 degrees measured on the top hose where the sensor has been placed, but the fans then seem to run for ever and the temp drops right down to 40 degrees or there about's before they even think about cutting out, the temp gauge on the dash moves back down into the blue zone, this seems excessive and as i'm now paranoid about anything to do with the cooling system i want to get this set up properly before i actually start using it again, have i done any thing wrong or is it a component problem? all info gratefully received.:(:(:(:(

Its long past his bedtime now, he probably gets up several times in the night though so hang around.......
Europe is 1 hour ahead of the UK until Snotland leaves, then the UK will move to European time as the Scots will no longer be in a position to object.:p

Sounds as if the stat used for the fans is faulty, the hysteresis should be about 10 degrees C. You can check that with a meter. If you rotate the temperature control knob on the stat can you make the fans switch off? Otherise the aircon is bringing them on.
Either way if the engine thermostat is working it should not get down into the blue.

i can turn the fans off by rotating the temp control knob, so i'm guessing that its nothing to do with the fan relay sticking, the aircon does not work and has been disconnected at the compressor so i don't think its any thing to do with that, whats the best way to test the thermostat? should i put my meter across the input and output side of the stat and apply some sort of heat source to the stat and see if i get a circuit and then time how long it takes for the circuit to open again when the heat is removed? many thanks for your help

Take the stat off the car, put a meter set to ohms across the common and normally open contacts, stick the sensor bulb in boiling water, contact should quickly close, meter should read 0 ohms, pull sensor out of the water, the meter reading should fairly rapidly change to open circuit.
According to myfirstl322, it's my bedtime, actually I'm off for a shower and to cook dinner, been on the roof all day in blazing sunshine re-tiling. Back tomorrow.:)

Do you mean you have a farm house in France that actually has roof tiles and not tin sheets?

Most have asbestos or tin it's true. Had a new roof and all timbers put on by "professionals" at great cost 10 years ago, it's leaked ever since:mad:
They say if you want a job done properly, do it yourself, trouble is I'm not good with working high up but just had to get on with it as can't afford to pay again.:mad:

Sun-stroke in October, hilarious.... makes u go to bed early, October +1 hour to boot
Living where you do, it will soon be dark most of the day. At least the midges will quieten down.
Who said anything about sunstroke? When you are used to the sun it's not a problem, something else you would know nothing about.
