Take readings at various stages, two main ones being on start up and once up to temp.
You want to see the pressure at idle and watch what happens as you increase the revs. The pressure should rise evenly like the revs do. If it fluctuates up and down then you could have an issue. Also see what happens as you go round corners as you could be getting some starvation due to lack of oil near the pick up.
Dont know the exact pressure spec for the engine but from experience i would expect at least 50psi on start up on idle dropping no lower than 10 psi once warm.

Thanks for your help. The oil level is just above the minimum level at the moment, so I am going to clean the hole that the switch screwed into, flush the engine with Wynn Engine flush and then do the oil change.
Then I'll do the test on the guage. I have been put in touch with a land rover mechanic who said an engine flush and change will make a difference and to start in that order. Thanks again

I really really wouldnt use flush. Its more trouble than good IMO.
It has very strong detergents and solvents in it like Kerosene which you will never get out 100% and it starts breaking down your fresh oil
If you want to flush all the oil crap out use a cheap oil. Do an oil change, run the engine for a few minutes to get it warm and then dump the oil. Put your normal oil in and bobs you uncle

IMHO: If your oil pressure light is coming on after startup then you`d be crazy to drive the vehicle more than you`ve got to until it`s sorted. Since you`ve replaced the switch you can safely assume it is working, except you don`t actually WANT to believe it. It is after all called a "Warning" light. Get your spanners out NOW. Get your wallet/credit-card out and buy a new oil pump now rather than a complete engine a little later.
