hey guys!

i have recently taken my 90 off roading for the first time at frickley 4x4! god what a laugh that was! but since then i have noticed oil patches on my drive which appears to be from the diff! its not a gr8 deal only about the size of a 50 pence piece but obviously that isnt right!

how is it fixed and is it an expensive job is basicaly my question?

thanks

Matt

near the prop?the drain?chesse sandwich?the filler? the breather? or have ye put a hole in it

sounds like the pinion oil seal from the size of drain and you mentioning diff.

is it from where the prop meets the diff nose? i had my rear one go a few weeks back. its nothing too serious.

take some pics and put them on this thread. should be able to conclude from there.

it appears to be coming from in front ov a small plate held on by 10 bolts just in the center it is about 5 x 8 inches. i have taken a picture so hopefully you can make it out.

you might wanna post that pic matt but yes , it does indeed sound like a leaking diff.
a few options here , take plate off and replace the gasket ,a crisp butty and a beer , try and nip up the bolts a bit.

Mine started leaking, on a whim I looked at the breather, clogged solid, cleaned it all up, checked oil leval and topped up, presto no more leaks, just a slight seep.

i cant seem to post pictures on so if anybody who is willing to help who dosnt mind giving me their email address i will send the photos

cheers guys:(

Your talking about the transfer box, not the diff, there is a locking diff in there but the diffs refer to the units on the axles.

These things leak, you can just keep an eye on the levels and top it up, or get a gasket kit and take the plate off and refit, you will need to drain the oil and refill.

This seems to be the same problem I am having and I was told to use instant gasket as you don't get a gasket kit for it. Is that true?

You got me bang to rights then guv

Hang on
no he never sed nowt an i no cos i was there.
Now thats from an independant expert witness so Its better proof than yours.

I have the LT77 but I assume the instant gasket would do the job just as well. What torque should the nuts on the plate be?

not as of yet but I intend to buy one as I assume I will need one if I am going to start working on the landy myself.
