Halfords have 30% off oil at the moment , Castrol magnatec 5w-30 4 litres @£21 ,
Opieoils lists the A1 version for the TD4 ?

Yes suction the oil from the dipstick tube this will remove most of the oil ! ( even when you drain from sump you still have some left in engine )

If you have to buy a suction pump / oil / oil filter I have another option ?

National tyres would change it for you , Aprox £70 Including removing undertray changing oil filter & using castrol edge 5w-30 fully synthetic ( Just the oil would cost you £70 in halfords )

This lot will do it for £49 Xpress Oil & Filter Change - IN'n'OUT Kwik Fit will do it for a similar price. Both probably less than buying the oil and filter and doing it yourself.

Yes the bottle has A1 for ford on it petrol & diesel engines , Specs are ACEA A1/B1 or A5/B5 on back .

A3/B3, A5/B5 and C3 oils are the better quality and good for the TD4 .

Thanks everyone.
Went out to my Freelander this morning, turned the key and just got a clicking sound. I thought it was The Solenoid or Starter motor, anyway I phone the RAC and a young guy turned up in 45 minutes(Pretty good) and as soon as he heard it he said it was the battery which I bought new 4 years ago. Anyway, to cut the story short he checked the whole charging system which was OK and sold me a new battery for £121.00 with a 5 year warranty, the old battery was only 3 year warranty. So all in all a bloody expensive start to the day, mind you I"m glad it was the battery and not anything else.
So now I guess I"ll go and buy my oil, 5w-30 C3 and if it"s it not too cold tomorrow do the oil and filter change.
This Landyzone must be the best thing since sliced bread, there are so many helpful Landy owners ready to help and give advice. Brilliant.

Shame about the battery - but at least you now have a new one fitted without the bother of going searching for it and then fitting it yourself.

Good luck with the oil and filter change tomorrow.

Are you aware that you'll need a big chunky 36mm six-sided socket to remove the plastic top of the oil-filter bowl?

I wish I was nearer to give you a hand mate, but take your time and all will be well - there are lots of helpful guys on line who will quickly answer any questions you might have .

Thanks all,
Yes I do have 36mm socket, bought it for £5.00 and I know I will probably never use it again but it"s still handy to have.
I nearly considered selling my Freelander a month ago, but I"m glad I didn"t because which other Manufacturer of vehicles, other than Landrover has so many Knowledgeable, Helpful and Willing to give advice owners.
Thanks once again everybody.
Dave

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but make sure the oil is hot before using the suction pump or it will take forever as the pipe that goes into the diptube is small bore.
