Hi guys and gals..
I'm David with my discovery td5 1999....

I've had a couple land rovers but this will be the first that I'll be upgrading/off roading.
So please excuse the questions that may sound silly to some..
I'm looking at changing the air suspension over to the springs and shocks... Will this be an easy job? My worries were that does the electrics from the air suspension need to come out?

Thanks for any help in advance..

just needs the BCU telling the air has gone, then you can strip everthing off if you like! you won't need to touch the looms, ride height sensors, compressor can all be removed,

Why bother the air suspension is pretty good?

yes it is a good system, until it goes t1ts up,if going laning or off roading in it,then why have all the sensors etc, that can and do go wrong, whereas springs etc do not.

Mines never gone wrong and if you are worried about sensors buy a series 3

but the op has a D2,just because yours have never gone wrong, does not mean they don't,as the forum will testify.Do you take your D2 off road in a serious manner?

I do occasionally, but it seems such a retrograde step

Thanks for your help guys.... Didn't want to start a disagreement. As I said in new so both points taken I just thought easier to repair but if it's a reliable system them may keep... I will be going on a few off road days also... Thanks again

You will get loads of help and advice on here, some differs from others,so you choose what you are comfortable with,in my case i felt better getting rid of the air and keeping the springs that was fitted to it when i bought it.

Yeah think I'll go to springs as had cars before and able to repair springs myself but air suspension goes past my expertise I'd say haha thanks again

No probs, good luck,i just think there is less to go wrong using springs, with air you have to keep an eye on so much more, especially if going off road etc,but others like MJI will have a different view on things.

Mine has ACE and SLS but both are good, ACE can be expensive to repair, (mine has a slight weep and I do have the parts).

But the ability to raise it a bit, to level when full of shopping, is good.

It is pretty reliable, but bags can leak, just as steel springs can snap.

I have had to replace steel springs on cars before due to breakages, so I know it happens.

My bags are on borrowed time as I am pretty sure they are originals. They last about 10 years each.

Compressors last as long as you don't get a leak.

Change if you want, but no point spending money replacing them if they work, spend it on a de EGR or a remap, or some underbody protection

Ok ... Yes I think they are working just fine so it's something I'll take a think about....
My 1999 could well be worth the remap first or the underbody protection... Again first time doing this so advice well received.. Thanks

Haha there's another thing I need

Nanocom or Hawkeye, don't bother with anything else.

Nanocom is a good aftermarket system and Hawkeye was made by the LR Testbook company

I have Hawkeye simply because it was at my local specialists, either are good, do not bother with anything else but those two, unless you have Testbook.

My reader has cleared codes expensive generic devices could not. Had to have a hub changed in a garage a few months after getting the D2 and still being injured.
