how does a gasket or exhaust prob create a pysical ticking noise? im no mechanic and have a very irratating ticking noise but cant see how manifold gasket etc can make noise?

its the hot gases pushng thro gap,a lot of vectras and omegas have this prob.My brothers astra would run like s**t and tick, spray inlet man join to head with wd40 and it would stop both for a while!

my 200tdi makes this ticking noise, ive owned 4 200tdi's but only this one does it,engine doesnt miss a beat and pulls like hell but never got to bottom of ticking noise

is there a way of testing to see if the gaskets had it before i take it all to pieces (just incase the gaskets ok)

Probably. Ah knew mines had gone by the oily soot around the knackered area... and ah'm sure ah could feel some blow by (it's bin a wee while);)
Try cleanin' around the manifold as best ye canand keep an eye on it to see if owt's gettin' by;):D

ere Buster - yu can check it by spraying the fannymold with easystart - if the revs rise, its drawing the easystart into the fannymold.

i know post a little old but thought i'd add to it nevertheless for anyone else looking.

Exhaust manifold can definately cause a ticking sound. Used to have an audi quattro turbo and they suffered from cracked exhaust manifolds (as did mine) and it sounded just like a sticky hydraulic tappet.

Therefore, i can certainly say without any doubt that a leak from the exhaust manifold can under some circumstances result in a ticking sound.

Hope this helps anyone else looking.:)
