Not expecting too much but it's worth a punt...

Drove the disco home Mon night in the -15 temps no bother, got into it Tuesday am & it won't start.
Eventually got it running in a fashion but stopped 200yds down the road.
It's now on the drive waiting to go to the garage tomorrow morning.
Mechanic had a quick look today but wants it in the nice warm garage to delve into it, feels sure it's not fueling.
Question is : there is a tick coming from it......like a relay trying to pull in. It's coming from behind the bulkhead below the brake cylinder or under the steering wheel in the cab.
Is there owt fuel related thats possibly FUBAR in this area?

This is with the key out of the ignition.

Any thoughts on this one, not a lot to go on but you never know.:(

would put money on the fact your fuel is waxed in the sedimenter and lines-200 yds is about a fuel filters worth-uk diesel is only spec-ed to -15 in winter-if you have summer diesel in there even worse.
 
Try warming the sedimentor and fuel filter up with heat gun or kettle full of water.
Also been suggested to add 10% petrol
 
It drove home OK & was garaged overnight,its only just below freezing here today & it still won't start.

The pump doesnt sound like its priming up either.

Bear i mind that the OP's car is a TD5 - not a TDi, so it doesn't have a **** handle:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D





To Gran - I don't believe this problem has anything to do with diesel waxing. For a start it's not cold enough from what you say. I reckon it could be fuelling too, but you need to get it connected to an LR-type diagnostic machine to read the codes.

So, in the meantime try this:

Switch the ignition to pos II, leave for thirty seconds then turn off for 15 secs, then repeat the whole procedure 5 more time, then start the car. This is the official air purging procedure and IF it works it suggests that you have air entering the fuel system somewhere.

Mechanic has diagnostics but the truck is between the house & wall so can't really get in or out without a squeeze,tried the purging procedure earlier to no avail.
I'm hoping when he gets it to his garage it's a relay or switch & not the pump itself.
I cant hear anything from the pump so I dont think its pressurising the fuel system.
Waiting for him now so bugger it :)

Hi Gran, if you can't hear the fuel pump running, could it have blown a fuse?

Check the engine bay fusebox:

fuse no F10 - 30amp plus
check the relay R1 in the same fusebox.

Checked them both this morning.
I'm edging towards a weak pump being taken over the edge when the fuel got gloopy.
Still not heard owt,don't know whether thats a good thing or not.:confused:

results are in....Fuel pump FUBAR :(
£175 from somewhere Darrnn Sarrfff....

Hopefully getting it back Tuesday.
