Myself and my good lady are both big Defender fans and have both done off-road driving days in them.

We're going on honeymoon to a cottage in the Scottish Highlands for two weeks in November and would love to get there from our home in Cheshire in a Defender, both for fun and because there could well be snow on the roads up there at that time of the year.

The problem is, only a couple of companies hire them for personal use. Out of them, one's only got a big 12-seater 110 available which is so expensive it would almost be cheaper to buy one, and the other (SHB) say you have to provide your own insurance. However, they also say that insurance can't come from a temporary cover provider, which are the only companies I've found willing to provide temporary cover, so it's a bit of a Catch-22.

As a result, I thought I'd come on here and see if anyone would be interested in loaning a Defender, in exchange for a suitable financial reward. I would get fully comprehensive cover for the use and provide proof of that of course (been quoted £110 for a TD5 which isn't bad) and can also provide my full clean driving licence and proof of the 10+ years no claims I've got on my own car insurance (aged 30, never had an accident, neither has the Mrs). I'm also a RoSPA member and advanced biker, for what it's worth.

I've also got full RAC cover with recovery to any address in the UK, so if it breaks down, I can get it back to where it needs to be at least.

The only catch is that there would be two dogs coming along for the ride so that may put some people off. But if anyone's interested, PM me to discuss.

Would prefer a 90 hard top or ex-military but anything considered. Thanks for reading!

Chris.

how will your village cope without its idiots if you go to Scotland :confused:

You say you have tried all the hire options... but did you look at : Alldrive - 4x4 Rental - means you could travel in family-car luxury all the way up here... and then use the landy for the scenic/snowy bits :D

Ta for that mate - hadn't cone across that one in the search results.

Have actually now found a farmer I know willing to hire one out for a bit of cash but may go with them if they're not too pricey.

Sorry missed that one genuine reply among sea of p*ss taking trolls!

Would be looking to pay up to £400/£450 quid - that any good? You'd need to be in the North West to make it work though - or somewhere on the way to the Highlands.

is that all your offering :eek:

my front winch is worth more than that

Remember to factor in the fuel saving if you drive own car up here! :D

Which part of God's country you coming to?

Heading up to the north west highlands - do you think snow chains would be worth bringing too?!

Where are you going exactly? there is very little chance of snow at the beginning of November although it did hail just south of Glasgow Tuesday morning...

I took my dog to a car showroom today.
I turned to him and said, "They have an interesting Range Rover."

I get it!

Excellent.

Fun aside...

No thank you. I enjoy far too much slow driving past X5's and ML's stuck in the snow...

I pulled a week old X5 of a grass field at a horse race event not so long ago!

As others have said. You can borrow mine for £12,000 Cash, Bank Transfer. Half returned for safe and same condition return. ;)

Well if things are going to be like that. Then make it £15K and there will be a hot salt beef sandwhich waiting for the both of you. Now this is one deal too good to pass up!
