How horrified was I when looking at the price of a new injector pump for my 2.5 n/a. Over a grand plus vat new and at least 400 plus vat reconditioned. Does anyone know if there is a kit seals etc for reconditioning one of these pumps That I can use to do it myself. Anyone know how difficult it is to recon one and if there are beartraps I should be aware of.

There are some on ebay for much less than that. I just put a search in for "landrover cav injector pump" and several came up for 2.5 NA engine. There is also a service kit with instructions.
 
Recon and reseal aren't the same thing, the recon is impossible to do at home without expensive equipment, the reseal is possible depending on where the leak is and your abilities.
Front pulley seal , distribution head seal is doable , throttle spindle seal has the potential to go wrong easily I believe. I've never done any of this btw , just what I've read about over the years. Dieselec ( near bridgnorth Shropshire) resealed my 200tdi pump for £60 a couple of yrs ago.
I also have a good pump that i may sell along with a good something else either a starter or alternator I forget which, will have to go look if you are interested.
I can't do links to dieselec sorry but they will come up on a search, they are actually at ditton priors around 20mins west of bridgnorth so not a million miles from you?

Honest assessment appreciated. I think just replacing the part with one that is known to be working ok is viable as I am mid point in the rebuild of my TD5 engine and shouldnt get two jobs on the go at the same time. I can always get a recon some time later and this would get the 2.5 back on the road (excluding my other problem) quite quickly. You are not that far away so how much are you asking for the pump and what was the other part
 
It's a starter motor, also good.
All this stuff was off a fully reconed engine, re calibrated FIP, new injectors (sold them) new alternator (sold) etc.
Block cracked after less than 1000 miles so I scrapped it and went 200tdi.
£100 for both fip and starter collected .

Sorry for late reply, just got back in, there are several options, used and reconditioned.
The service kit looks very comprehensive and would require some skills and knowledge to fit unless you only need a seal or two replacing.

Yeah had thought of that and know where I might get one. This truck is the back up toy to play with in the garage and green lanes its just been called into service cos I needed to re-engineer the TD5 engine (which is done and waiting to go back onto my daily drive). guy who did the re-engineering suggested a TD200 instead as its an easier upgrade than the 300. problem is now I have two unuseable Landies and no other transport so I am trying to work thorough my options. I think the best option might be to crack on with the TD5 and come back to the 2.5. If so might be better to bite the bullet and upgrade to a TD200. Though might still be worth putting a working CAV FIS on the NA so I can sell on as a working engine complete, some offroaders still prefer this engine for its low grunt

The 2.5na is quite good in a series engine - that’s what my old NA went into, actually quite good off road.

I deffo prefer my tdi though

Done... at least a pre used will buy a bit of time to decide what to do long term. How can I get the bits
 
Everywhere! The bottom two in out pipes at the banjo into the pump and the big banjo under the pump possibly the blind one on the side too
 
I've resealed my own CAV DPA pump. The bio fuel additives now in diesel seem to harden the seals and so fuel pours out of every joint. I bought a seal kit off e-bay and took my time. Once its off it took about 3 hours start to finish. Get set up - good light, clean surface (very clean) lint free rags and lots of little scrapers, picks and levers to get the seals out and a clean and dirty tray. Wash it in a tray with clean deisel and lube it with diesel as you assemeble. Pump reseals are quite common and easy to do if you are careful. Don't aim to overhaul so only take bits apart enough to get to the seal and don't touch any ajustments. On the DPA you can change the large body seal by sliding the pump body out about 1/2" without dismantling the inside. The boat forums do this - they sometimes do the reseal with the pump still on the engine.

I would be more worried about why its started to leak everywhere, a worn pump still shouldnt leak, it sounds like excessive pressure or something, did all this just all happen at once?

There is a much greater chance of contaminating the pump internals with grit if you don't remove it, and degrease and wash off thoroughly before opening it up.
