I jetwashed it before removing it, then in a tray with diesel and a soft brush, then brake cleaner. Work on a pile of newspaper and keep tearing sheets off so its always a clean surface.

Should be OK of you are careful not to get any bits of paper in the works.

In a fuel injection workshop they have a stainless bench, and put the bits into stainless trays full of calibration fluid as they are removed.
