So, while coming home from work, I heard something either fall off my car, or I'd run over something that I hadn't seen. Being on a narrow lane I waited till I got to the Tee junction and after a quick check for traffic behind me stopped and got out to have a look. The door shut behind me and I had a quick look at the back. Nothing to see so went to get back in. Whilst getting out I must have leant on the door lock on the arm rest and the doors had locked! :wtf:So there I am right on a junction with keys in the car and the engine running, and no way to get in other than breaking a window. Oh f@@@k.:eek:

Luckily, I stopped a guy in another Freelander, hoping maybe with a bit of juggling using his key I could get in. No chance! But, he did turn out to be a good choice, as he had RAC membership (which I don't). he phoned them and told them my... predicament, and they agreed to come out. The guy stayed with me for an hour helping me direct tons of rush hour traffic in and out of the junction until the RAC arrived. What a star, thanks that man. It took the RAC about three minutes to get in, and with no damage. After many thanks and 5 minutes getting warm again in my motor, he set off home, and so did I. Phew!!! Still don't know why the engine management allowed the locked door to close without unlocking it as it should have. Just a glitch I suppose, but very embarrassing.:rolleyes:
 
Ignore the tratter boys. What they get up to in their club don't have anything to do with us Freelander owners.

I guess you'll buy AA cover now?
 
did you try all the other doors if they were locked as well then there is a problem as it should not lock the drivers door have you got a spare set of keys if so try it again to see if it does it if so get it sorted for the future
 
Hippo. Naa never had any breakdown cover, usually sort it out misen, but at least I know how to get in if it happens again, and without breaking the window.
Teddywood1. I tried it again whilst sitting in the car, and it did the same again. Must be a computer glitch or summat. I would have thought if the ignition keys are in, and the engine running, then if the door is locked whilst its open, I would expect it to unlock as the door was closed. Am I right with this logic?

Good Samaritan, eh?

Take no notice of the Tratters, the panel fit on their Series/'benders is so bad, they can just crawl back in through the gaps if they lock themselves out...

(lock themselves out, what am I saying?.. they leave them ticking over with the keys in hoping they'll get stolen..) :D

Go for the AA is my recommendation if you do choose to get cover.

I will let you know tomorrow I will try it as I have a set of spare keys I have breakdown with the AA free from the bank you want to check with your bank some do some don't and not a lot of people know it either
 
well I tied my wife freelander and mine with the engin running and I could not push the button down it just stayed where it was hope this helps

You can buy 'enhancements' to that cover too!

I paid £140 for a 'Multi Vehicle Breakdown policy' and both my cars are covered. No limits to mileage, my Merc was 20 years old!

Last year the Mercedes blew the head gasket, and they coughed £475 toward the repair, and this year the wife's Astra killed it's starter motor and we claimed the entire cost (less £25 excess) of 198.00 back!

If their Patrol man can't repair it at the road side, and he either follows you/tows you to the garage, (any garage) then you can claim upto a max of £500 (less £25 excess if you pay'n'claim....but if you get a ref number from them before the repair commences then you pay them £25 excess, and then they'll pay all £500 if it's necessary.

Certainly saved me a bob or two over the last two years!

Hmm, that's interesting about the bank, I'll have to look into that, I'm with Yorkshire bank so whether they'll do it I don't know.
Teddywood1. It was the arm rest locking button that I pressed, not the door top button, don't know if that made the difference or not.
 
hi Andrew well i tried both cars and it will not do it i tried it with the door open and then pressing the central locking button it locked all other door but not the drivers it will only lock the drives when door is closed hope this helps
 
Cheers Teddywood1. Maybe it is just a fluke, if not I don't think there's anything I can do about anyway. I'll just have to make sure I don't do it again. :eek:
