Quite a few folks who post on the forums in here have experience of blown
engines.

It might seem as though most 3.0D engines blow up when you read the forums
on the ITOCUK, but I'm pretty sure that isn't so. My guess, though, would
be that maybe 5% of engines that haven't had the fix applied have failed.
This is based purely on my dealers statement that they've had about 10 in
over the years with blown engines (and guessing that they service maybe a
couple of hundred regularly).

There are one or two folks who post on ITOCUK who claim to have an engine
blow AFTER having had the injector sleeves replaced - but I have no way of
knowing the circumstances under which the fix was done or who it was done
by. At least one poster to ITOCUK is a mechanic at an Isuzu franchise
dealer and says that he has never known an engine blow after having had the
injector sleeves replaced.

You *need* to check with an Isuzu main dealer (or with International Motors)
whether the important "service campaigns" (as they call them) have been done
on the engine. These include replacement of the injector sleeves and
replacement of the turbo. These are done F.O.C. on the International Motors
(Isuzu UK) warranty, irrespective of the age of the vehicle - for cars that
they have imported - i.e. official UK troopers.
When the injector sleeves fail, the oil level in the sump starts to rise. I
am told that if you check the oil level frequently then you can catch it
before it blows. As an aside, my 2000 Citation 3.0D has been fine for 93K
miles without any engine problem at all. The injector sleeve fixes were
done at its 72K service, about 18 months ago.
