I lost the plot with my apprentice today, I was putting the gas axe through the lower part of that digger....
(bits that carry the tracks with drive motors ect)
The rear balance weight was slewed out to the nearside so lifting the offside 3ft of the ground so I could do all the underside cuts
when I had done all 4 corners (its an 40mm thick steel) I was cutting the balance weight off (7ton)so there must be about 20 tonne on whats left. Again I done all the underside cuts so I had 3 cuts to do....
Middle one first then when I was halfway though the outer cut the machine moved, I said to the lad who was to keep the hoses
out the way & fire watch "this whole thing has just moved so keep out the way" I was nearly through the 2nd cut & something
caught my left eye !! The walloper was reaching under the raised part of it which was about to fall off OMG what a fright
I got. :eek::eek:

And you'd have to tell his Mum ...

The MIL has been visited, she says she is not in any great pain, but she is on IV meds and hydration. :)
Thinks she ought to be allowed home now but the medics cannot let her go.
She has some way to go before they can decide on the right plastic-surgery for that leg.
We think it is likely to be several more weeks. :(
But it's much better than before. :)
My poor wife goes nearly every day to visit. Her brother has been twice in 3 weeks as far as we know. Shocking!

Our whole village is inundated with ants, right old pain. :(

.... which is more or less what he said... which is why if you made them today like older craft, they'd cost much more and take longer to build by proper shipwrights/boatbuilders.
All Teak and Brass. Larvely!! Or proper welded steel.
Or do you prefer it riveted? Like the Titanic? (Gosh, did I really say that??!!) 🤣 🤣 🤣
He says that the people who come to work there know absolutely nothing, but "don't like your attitude" when he tries to explain to them how to do stuff properly.

Ive got a riveted craft to scrap, under the water line is rotten & some of the rivets are leaking. It had a survey to get it coded
but no chance of that happening.

and as we all know that @kevstar loves cookery notes...
Just to say that my main course today was tournedos steak with truffle sauce, which was very nice indeed and that the trimmings and veg were exquisite too.
W was vastly amused as I kept on making "yummy" sort of noises with each new lovely flavour. I don't normally do that apparently, so it must have been exceptionally good.

She had veal in a morelles sauce, which she enjoyed.
Washed down with a red from the "La Clape" region. (We stopped laughing at that name a while back now, but I expect some of you will have a little giggle!!)

Not hugely expensive but went very well with what we were eating!
so, off to kip.
Sleep well folks!

I heard that the reason the SS Great Britain managed to survive being as it was for so long was that its riveted cast iron hull resisted rust where a steel one would have rotted away.

I'm sure you'll put pics up along the lines of "Wot I did at work today" when you break it up. ;)🤣

Morning All. :D
Cool and overcast here. :(
Got the G-kids here for 2 days (son at a trade show at the NEC).
I have worked out what it was that made my shoulders hurt. A very big AXE/MAUL.
I split a tree trunk round for the fire last week, it was a lot harder than I thought it would be.
I shall have to find another way of splitting them I guess.
Have a great day. :D
