I know yours is 540/1000, was about Data's fancy 3 spd

No idea what the third speed does, as I said I never even had anything that used 1000.
540/830 and I think 1350, never used the top speed. I use the 830 for my cutter deck as on 540 I have to use over 90% throttle to get a good cut, that means 1st gear high range gives a too high speed over the ground and 3rd gear low range is too slow. With 830, I can use 50% throttle so the PTO speed is not too much different but I can use 1st gear high range giving a reasonable speed over the ground.I know yours is 540/1000, was about Data's fancy 3 spd![]()

1000 rpm is used for larger horse power uses 540 usually under 80hp ,1000 for over as it reduces the size of components needed to transmit the extra torque that would be needed if shaft was only running at 540 in the same way lorries have reduction drives at the wheels, the driven implement is so geared to take whatever inputit is designed for
Not sure how that explains my 13Hp Kubota having a 3 speed PTO1000 rpm is used for larger horse power uses 540 usually under 80hp ,1000 for over as it reduces the size of components needed to transmit the extra torque that would be needed if shaft was only running at 540 in the same way lorries have reduction drives at the wheels, the driven implement is so geared to take whatever inputit is designed for

Ill get around to it
I use much more dangerous kit and I am not dead

Up to you what you do, myself I would get a guard. Even 12hp is enough to mess you up if clothing, hair, or something you are carrying gets caught on the shaft![]()
Some so called safety devices just make things worse, the side lock button on my hedge trimmer is one example, impossible to use it left handedi do have a couple of guards kicking about but its another job to do when I next change implement probably.
ive always found having guards on things makes you complacent, its a personal choiceIll be more convered about the 32" unguarded table saw blade on the saw bench I am getting - like a scene out of a dodgy james bond movie!
We all do dangerous things, using hi jacks and welding in clothes that are soaked in oil (dont we?) plenty of danger in the worldand its nothing to fear.
:crutch:

So the button is glued in.![]()
