I have just noticed a hissing sound on my Discovery V8 ES year 2000 model. The sound appears after every 10-12 seconds. It is louder when heard from outside of the vehicle.

Please advise what it could be.

Thanks.

Cannot hear it when moving due to engine and road noise, but is heard when stationary and in any gear (automatic).

I thought it was the self-levelling sound, but this hiss appears every 10-12 seconds.

I initially thought that too, but that sound only appears on the odd occasion, not every few seconds.

One of yer pipes feeding the rear suspension may be leaking, but I'm not sure whereabouts they lie under the car.
Your best bet is to lie under the car, if you can( I find parking half on and half off tha pavement quite helpful) or pull it over a pit or onto a ramp.
Then wait and see if you can track it down, it may be long winded, but you should be able to trace the pipes and see if they are leaking or not.
